Michael James Thomas McElhinney (LLM and LLB) is a PhD Candidate at the Faculty of Law, University of Bergen.
After completing an LLB with honours at University of Glasgow, Michael participated in an Erasmus exchange to the University of Bergen, as well as the ARQUS exchange programme with Jean Moulin Lyon 3 University, focussing on Renewable Energy Communities in Europe.
Michael then completed his LLM on the Nordic Masters Programme in Environmental Law (NOMPEL), spending 2 years across the Nordics studying Environmental Law at the University of Uppsala, University of Eastern Finland, and the Arctic University of Tromsø.
Currently a member of the COAST Law Centre, working on the NorthCarb project: "The North Sea Carbon Basin: Governance for transporting, storing, and building Carbon Capture and Storage (CCS) infrastructure in the Climate Transition."
With strong interest in Climate, Energy, and Environmental law, especially in the utilisation of the law and new technologies in the energy sector to tackle climate change.
