Geoffrey Aori Mabea is Professor of Energy Economics focussing on energy markets design, energy regulation, and energy transition. His work bridges policy, markets, and institutions, advancing resilient energy systems that support economic growth, regional cooperation, and long-term sustainability.

As Chief Executive Officer of the Regional Association of Energy Regulators for Eastern and Southern Africa (RAERESA)- an institution of COMESA, Professor Mabea provides visionary leadership to a multilateral platform at the forefront of Africa's energy transition. His leadership has accelerated the harmonisation of regulatory and policy frameworks among member states, fostering stability, transparency, and investor confidence across increasingly integrated energy markets. Operating at the intersection of regulation, public policy, international relations, and diplomacy, he engages policymakers, regulatory leaders, development finance institutions, and global partners to align national priorities with regional ambitions.

He previously operationalised and led the Energy Regulators Association of East Africa (EREA) as Executive Secretary and Chief Executive Officer, guiding the institution into a central force for regional coordination. He spearheaded the establishment of the East African Energy Union, developed the Petroleum Regulatory Index (PRI) and established the Energy Regulation Centre of Excellence (ERCE). He is the author of the Primer on Energy Economics and Policy book, a significant contribution that informs both scholarship and practice within the sector. He read for BSc. (Geospatial Engineering) and MBA at Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology. He read for MSc. in Energy Economics and Policy at the University of Surrey. He obtained his PhD in Energy Economics and Policy at the University of Dundee. He is affiliated to the University of Zambia and Gideon Robert University.
