Xungpeng Shi

Xunpeng joined ESI in June 2014. Before joining ESI, he was the Chief Researcher for Energy Efficiency and Conservation at the Brunei National Energy Research Institute, where he assisted the Brunei Government establish the mandatory energy efficiency standards and labelling programme. Previously, he was an energy economist at the Economic Research Institute for ASEAN and East Asia (ERIA), where he coordinated a variety of energy research projects. Before he started his PhD, he had various management and research positions in China’s leading energy institutes, companies and central government agencies. He obtained his PhD in Economics and his Master of Environmental and Resource Economics from the Australian National University, his LLM in Mineral Law and Policy from the University of Dundee and his Bachelors in Marketing from China University of Mining and Technology. He remains an Adjunct Associate Professor at Universiti Brunei Darussalam. His main research interests include energy economics and policy, resource and environmental economics, the Chinese economy, and energy policy issues in China, ASEAN and East Asia.
